Sugar & Spice

Monday, November 15th, 2010

These cookies were an adorable complement to the dessert table at a wonderful baby shower I attended this week.

The theme was Sugar & Spice, and the colors were pink & brown.

Congratulations to Mommy- and Daddy-to-be!

This little ladybug

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

I love themed parties, and I was so excited to make the cake for little Chloe’s very first birthday party.

In a ladybug theme of course.

There was a big cake.

And a smash cake.

And they couldn’t be cuter.

Happy birthday!

Sew… happy birthday to you!

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

I made this cake for our wonderful vet’s wife’s birthday.

Dr. R told me  she really liked sewing and embroidery, and he had already surprised her with a cake in the shape of a sewing machine (how cool is that!).

So I took on the “embroidery” theme.

Which was pretty fun, seeing as how I used to love doing counted cross stitch. Which is kind of the same thing.

I covered a round, chocolate cake with fondant “fabric” (Aida, if you want to be all technical), draping it from a fondant embroidery hoop.

I then piped on the birthday message in a blocky, “sampler”esque font.

And added a few skeins of fondant and royal icing embroidery floss to the side for good measure.

Here’s hoping it was a wonderful birthday!

Somewhere over the rainbow cake

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Sometimes, the internet can be a dangerous thing for me.

You see, I was reading this wonderful post by Martha Points who got the idea from The Whisk Kid, and I just had to give it a shot.

The rainbow cake, that is. Not for the faint of heart.

A smooth white exterior of swiss meringue buttercream conceals…

Six layers of brilliant rainbow colors.

Beautiful, festive and delicious!

Make your own and tell me all about it!

Say it with cupcakes

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Really. Is there any other way?

While I was out of town, our oldest pug, Oscar, had to undergo emergency surgery. For eating a needle and thread.

I have no idea how it happened.

Our vet and his team saved his life. Despite his age and the fact that it was a needle that had, indeed, left a small puncture in his stomach, Oscar is home and recovering well.

However, I wanted to send a special gift of appreciation to the office, just so they know how awesome we think they all are.

Just a couple of black & fawn pug cupcakes with a little note…

Not traditional.

But the sweetest way we knew how to say it.

Football cookies for Baby Jack

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

One of my best friends and her husband just had the most adorable little baby boy a few months ago. And he’s being raised in a Hurricanes/Dolphins household. The right way. :)

I made these sweet cookies in honor of that, combining all their favorite teams in onesies and letters.

Could they be cuter? More delicious? No. I think not.

Congratulations to some dear friends!

Gators by request

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

If you know anything about me,  you know that I would only make a Gators cake if it really meant something to someone else.

Because I’m all about the Hurricanes, baby.

But my friend wanted something special for her husband’s birthday party. And he’s a Gators fan. So I created this football field cake with a fondant Gators logo for the event.

Two layers of devil’s food cake with a white chocolate filling, covered in smooth vanilla buttercream.

Chomp.

Happy birthday!

Babies, babies, everywhere

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Two of our dear friends had bouncing baby boys quite recently. What better way to send our congratulations, than with cookies?

Cookies are just festive.

For little Scott Jr, whose gender was a surprise and who has a nursery decorated all in turtles.

And for Chase, a set of boy-themed onesies.

Congratulations to the new mommies and daddies! Enjoy your new little bundles of joy.

And the cookies :)

Happy Birthday Cookies

Fun and festive, these cookies were the perfect way to wish a happy birthday to Turtle’s grandparents.

Soft and delicious, with just a hint of lemon in the icing.

Girls’ Night In Desserts

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

These themed cookies and cupcakes were the perfect addition to a very fun girls’ only party.

Vanilla cupcakes dipped in a chocolate ganache and accented with a royal icing heart.

And soft cookies in the shapes of hearts and high heels, with almond flavored icing and pearlized pareil accents.

Delicious with a dessert wine and good friends.
