The Claw
Saturday, January 15th, 2011This weekend, my son’s little friend H celebrated her 3rd birthday.
The theme of the party? Toy Story. Who doesn’t love Toy Story?
Yeah, I don’t know either.
H’s mom wanted little alien cupcakes to tie in with the theme.
I’d be lying if I said these weren’t a blast and a half to make.
Don’t you just want to adopt them? Or eat them?
And seriously, ya’ll? How cute is this Sit-n-Spin for a display stand?
It was the hostess’ idea. It could not have been more perfect.
By the way? These little beauties are chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and fondant and M&M accents.
Claw not included.
Sew… happy birthday to you!
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010I made this cake for our wonderful vet’s wife’s birthday.
Dr. R told me she really liked sewing and embroidery, and he had already surprised her with a cake in the shape of a sewing machine (how cool is that!).
So I took on the “embroidery” theme.
Which was pretty fun, seeing as how I used to love doing counted cross stitch. Which is kind of the same thing.
I covered a round, chocolate cake with fondant “fabric” (Aida, if you want to be all technical), draping it from a fondant embroidery hoop.
I then piped on the birthday message in a blocky, “sampler”esque font.
And added a few skeins of fondant and royal icing embroidery floss to the side for good measure.
Here’s hoping it was a wonderful birthday!
Say it with cupcakes
Thursday, August 26th, 2010Really. Is there any other way?
While I was out of town, our oldest pug, Oscar, had to undergo emergency surgery. For eating a needle and thread.
I have no idea how it happened.
Our vet and his team saved his life. Despite his age and the fact that it was a needle that had, indeed, left a small puncture in his stomach, Oscar is home and recovering well.
However, I wanted to send a special gift of appreciation to the office, just so they know how awesome we think they all are.
Just a couple of black & fawn pug cupcakes with a little note…
Not traditional.
But the sweetest way we knew how to say it.
Hole in One for Father’s Day.
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010I made this adorable golf course cake for my father-in-law for Father’s Day.
It’s a vanilla cake, flavored with a hint of Bailey’s Irish Cream and filled with chocolate.
And the rest? Well, I think it speaks for itself. Everything is edible except the flag and pole.
Happy Father’s Day!
Happy Father’s Day!
Friday, June 18th, 2010What better way to celebrate than with this adorable dessert?
Because everyone loves cake.
Designed with a Miami Hurricanes fan in mind, this cake resembles a mint green dress shirt with white collar and french cuffs, a split U cufflink and orange, green and white flowered tie.
The cake itself is chocolate-coconut flavored and filled with shredded coconut and vanilla buttercream for a Mounds bar effect. Mmmm.

There is also a custom “i <3 dad” label detail inside the collar.
A Beautiful Wedding
Monday, June 7th, 2010This weekend, I provided a cutting cake and mini cupcakes for a gorgeous wedding at the Garden Club.
The room was absolutely fantastic – deep purple orchids and candles, and gorgeous accents in orange and teal and green, all based around the vivid hues of peacocks.
Breathtaking.
Over 150 mini cupcakes in vanilla, chocolate and banana rum surround the cake stand.
The lights from the candles in the background.
The tail of the cake topper is absolutely beautiful.
One more close up.
Congratulations to M and her new husband! Wishing you both every happiness!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
A Shower for Baby F
Saturday, December 12th, 2009I was so delighted to be invited to our dear friend K’s baby shower. She and her husband D will be expecting Baby F in just a few short months, and we are over the moon for them.
I was also thrilled to be called upon to make her shower cake. Two tiers, one chocolate, one vanilla, studded with butterdream polka dots and a replica of the fishies from Baby F’s super adorable bedding.

Congratulations, again, to two wonderful friends!
Happy Halloween!
Friday, November 6th, 2009Around the holidays, I always fall a little behind in my uploading.
However, I wanted to share these adorable Halloween cupcakes. Orange colored chocolate chip cake frosted like jack-o-lanterns, or with vanilla and chocolate, edged in spooky non-pareils.

Check out the cute pumpkin cupcake papers. The perfect touch. These were a huge hit!
